Q8: Lived the concept that Dr. Falwell preached -- if it is Christian it should be better. I have used that principle throughout my life and career.

Q9: Being part of a leadership team at a small local church .. did not think it was for me to do; it was always the older people like my dad who did that .. I was forced to mature to lead effectively which helped me to grow.

Q10: Recruited back to Liberty as an administrator after 20 years on staff at a major Division I program; I never thought I would be back in Lynchburg until after I retired

Q8: I believe that the years I spent in Lynchburg under Gordon Luff and Youth Aflame Ministries had a great deal to do with where I am now as a Christian and family man. I have served as a Television director at church, I have served as a Boy Scout leader which allowed me to minister to many young men and woman through a great program focused on excellence, I have served as a fire fighter and layman cowboy. That's an interesting one, reaching people who would never come to regular church through cowboy sports and activities.

Q9: Having children and realizing how much my parents influenced me and how we should do likewise bringing future generations to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Q10: I have a wonderful full life and have been very blessed in many ways. My wife and I have been together for 21 years. It always amazes me how diverse God can be with the way he works in our lives.

Q8: I have had 4 major influences in my life who taught me something special. My dad taught me unconditional love, my high school football coach taught me dedication & commitment, Dr. Falwell taught me prayer, and Gordon taught me vision. I will always be grateful to Gordon for his passion to train youth leaders and his vision.

Q9: God has blessed me in so many ways through the years. My wife, Vickie, has been an inspiration to me. My kids have grown to understand and know God's love - they never cease to amaze me! God has been faithful and my prayer is that He would always find me faithful to Him and His calling.

Q8: The years with Youth Aflame gave me a special heart for ministry with youth. God has led me into the field of music education...teaching children and teens to use their musical talents as a tool to reach others for Christ.

Q9: I think homeschooling my children has transformed my life - a priceless experience. I was trained in the field of education not knowing that God would allow me to education my own children.

Q6: Joshua-24- grad. student at San Diego State
Adam-20-at Palm Beach Atlantic Univ.
Jarred-18-senior in Gainesville High School

Q7: Every thing rises and falls on leadership!
Oh fats!

My most cherished memory is Gordon loving my boys and me when Karren died.

Q8: I will always be thankful for meeting Gordon in Jersusalem while he was chasing Barry Jennings around the pool with a metal chair. My life changed forever. When Gordon asked me to be a part of the ILA team it allowed me to complete college and experience ministry in a way no class room could teach. Through the years as a youth pastor and senior pastor many of those life lessons learned while serving under Gordon's leadership have carried me through some difficult experiences. Jerry Falwell and Gordon Luff are the two men who most dramaticly impacted my life.

Q9: When Karren was diagnosed with colon cancer in Sep.2000 then dying three months later my life was forever changed. My boys were 16, 12 & 10 at the time. Gordon did a memorial service for us in CA. Upon our return my baby boy became very ill. As he was vomiting his guts out late one night he cried out,"I want my Mommy!" We all did. I became bitter at God and my situation. In May 2006 God broke my heart and I cried out in repentance for my sin against Him. I now see life with different eyes and have a softer heart for people. You never know why someone does or says what they do until you walk in their shoes.

Q10: I thank God for sending me to Liberty and then opening the doors for my involvement with Youth Aflame. I was drifting through life with no clear direction when I met Dr. Jerry Falwell and Gordon Luff in Israel. They among many other godly men and women shaped my thinking and trained me for Christian service. I think I am just now begining to understand so much of what I was taught. I am thankful for all the life long friends which were made at Liberty. For some of you, you know so little of how you have contributed to my life and have given me encouragement over the years. Just knowing you were out there and you cared made a difference in choices I made. It is wonderful to be able to unite once again in a common cause with a desire to proclaim Jesus Christ to a country and world more confussed today than in the days we were in college. Youth Aflame is needed to reach a generation that has no knowledge of God or His love. I remember the thousands to whom we ministered. Now, perhaps we can do it again...just older and wiser in what we do!

Q8: He inspired a love of working with kids and provided an example of godly leadership.

Q9: I am quoting a song that sums up my answer here:
I've been thru a fire.
That has deepened my desire
To know the living God more and more.
It hasn't been much fun,
But the work it has done in my life has made it worth the hurt.
For you see, sometimes we need the hard times to bring us to our knees.
Otherwise, we'd do as we please and never seek Him.

God truly is good!! I can praise Him for how He is directing my path, as I trust in Him without depending on my own understanding.

Q7: My memories are of Gordon's endless energy, limitless patience and selfless giving as a leader and servant. Arriving later in YA, I was ministered to by Larry and Sheila, and their example has been my inspiration many times when working with young people.

Q8: YA leaders showed me the importance of investing my life in the lives of others. God allowed me to teach 5-12 grades at Seneca Trail Christian Academy for 16 years. From coaching girls Volleyball coach, directing school choir, teaching art and drama , organzing dinner theaters adn directing the plays, Coordinator for Fine Arts , etc. The examples of Gordon, Larry and Sheila, encouraged me to accept challenges and trust God to bring the projects to fruition -which He always did.

Q9: God has transformed my life these past two years after surviving my own personal hell week- accepting the failure of my marriage, finding out I had type 2 diabetes, backing over my kitten and killing it, to name a few events. God brought Christian counselors and others into my life who could help me. My faith, family and friends sustained me.

Q6: One child, Hunter, 10 years old

Q7: We would be traveling at night and while most were asleep, you'd find Gordon on the back of the bus with a group of guys around him talking about youth work. His love for youth was SO contagious. One night, I was going to the bathroom on the bus and saw one lone light on in the back and it looked like Jesus and the disciples sitting back there talking about ministry.

Also, a funny memory: We were in Texas (about 10-12 of us) for a rally and he stood on a folding chair to lead the crowd in "Get All Excited" (of course!) and the chair folded up on him. He was stuck and he turned around to us on stage and said, "Somebody want to get me out of this?!" Brian Abe was my singing partner that weekend and he handed me his mic and lost it! It was hilarious! Also, one more: He'd never let you end a sentence w/ a preposition! Example: "where is he at?" That would drive him crazy.

My favorite quote: "We didn't come to be ministered to but to minister." Also, "don't sing ""Whatever It Takes"" unless you mean it - you're singing this song to the Lord." It always brought back the truth of that song and how we should take what we do very seriously and humbly.

Q8: Natashia and I continued singing through the years together and we would talk about how Gordon had instilled in us the importance of "ministry". That concept alone changed my life forever. The Lord sent Gordon into my life at just the right time and he has been a vital part of my life through the years. The years I spent with the chorale were a great time of growth.

There was a time in the early 80's after he moved to Texas that I was going through a very deep valley. He just "happened" to come by and check on me. He took me to lunch and counseled me for weeks after he went back home. Of course, I know the Holy Spirit sent him by that day :) There are so many wonderful memories and I'm so thankful he allowed me to travel with the Chorale.

Q7: The Definition of Leadership: Motivating others to brilliant effort!

Q8: Since I did not have the privilege of traveling with the Youth Aflame groups, I only had Gordon for my Youth Ministry Courses. Because I didn't know him as well as others, I probably missed out on a lot. However, Gordon was always saying "unforgettable" things - he inspired me by simply being inspiring. Every time he spoke in class, he added value to my life. It is a model I try to remember so that I can fill that role in the lives of women.

Q9: My life was transformed in a radical way by the near-failure of my marriage several years ago. It was during that time that God showed Himself to be all that I needed or could ever desire. His presence was so strong and His companionship so real, I have been strengthened in my faith by this experience more than any other in my entire life. And by the way, the marriage survived and is thriving today.

Q10: My memories of working with Youth at Liberty and Thomas Road are always close at hand. As I have caught up with former classmates via the internet, I am filled with pride at how everyone is still serving Jesus so passionately. I feel honored to have studied and lived along side so many dedicated kingdom workers.

Q8: It was Gordon, and more directly Dave Adams, teaching "Youth Aflame" class where the final exam was to explain your "call".
I "aced" the exam, but realized that as much as I loved working with teenagers, the call was from my head and not my heart. I realized that for every Gordon Luff in life there had to be 100 Jim Newtons to work with, help, and most of all pray for him to make a youth program work.

Q9: This is corny but...the 3 years at Liberty did more to shape the person that I am than 30 years of business experience. Going to Liberty, in what I call, "The Pioneer Days", was an adventure in and of itself. In managing people I still refer to "things I learned in a religion class in college".

Later I was fortunate to be working in the church with our youth minister, Richard Ross, where the "TRUE LOVE WAITS" program began. What a thrill to be involved in something that affected so many millions of teenagers world wide.

Q10: The text book for Youth Aflaim class one year was "How To Win Friends And Influence People". Gordon's exams were "fill in the blank" and "write the list". I used to walk down the road in the country reading and not turn around and walk back until I had it memorized. (I was in real good shape back then)! I had an instructor in seminars later say that "exams like that were the sign of a lazy teacher and were not good in actual learning". I have to beg to differ. "The most important thing to a person is his name" is one memorized phrase that will forever be part of my "ministry".

Q7: Gordon told me once that I needed to accept myself for how God made me and that God had something for me to do that only I was uniquely suited for. That was a turning point in my life. I always took Gordon's advice to heart and I took this to heart and applied it daily in my life. I still do!

Q8: His life and words have left a huge footprint on my life. He was my first real mentor and when he would preach to us on the bus and before concerts, I was always convicted by the Holy Spirit. I have loved Gordon, Dottie, and the whole family with my heart for all these many years. I have to admit, though, Dottie is #1 for me and Gordon is a very close second. Love you Dottie.

Q9: I am on the adventure of being a mother. God gave Callie and I two boys through the gift of adoption. I became a first time mom at the age of 46 so I know God has a sense of humor. Being a mother has transformed my life and I know what it feels like to love something more than you love yourself.

Q10: I am excited to see everyone and hear what we have all through since our college days. I know we are going to laugh, cry, and be encouraged and hopefully encourage one another during this weekend next year. I can't wait.

Q7: "Everyone is replaceable"
"Results, not excuses"

Loved Gordan's passion to affect our lives, all the sermons to prepare us for ministry are my fondest memory of him.

Q8: In the area of personal conviction and a love for the Bible. I love the instruction, wisdom, and the feeding of my soul when I read God's Word. That passion and desire, I watched in Gordan's life.

Q9: There have been many. But about 12 years ago we were a part of a church split over doctrine, and we were the part that left. So it was not a pretty picture, but I learned that friends are friends (some of the time), and the only one you can rely on is God. He showed me at that point of my life that He is my absolute best friend, and in Him only can I trust! Transformed my life and my thinking. It has allowed me to have an eternal perspective on the 'things' in my life!

Q10: Sure, God has been good to me and I have a great life. Don't get me wrong, life is hard, but God is Great!!

Q8: I was very grateful for the opportunity to travel and sing with several groups during my time at Liberty. (I was in Lynchburg a long time!)

Q9: We have been in Christian School ministry for 14 years. Currently, we are now in Birminham working in the public schools. It has been awesome to watch how God has allowed us to invest in our christian and non-christian students. We've been grateful for all of the doors that have opened for us to live and love them in Jesus. Certainly, it is more difficult in the public arena but it doesn't get any better than when clearly God has opened a door for you and you just jump in and start sharing your heart! I love it!!!

Q5: Joseph "Joe

Q6: 3 children
Richard "Rich" served in the navy for 5 yrs-now attends college
Ronald "Ron" attended LBU and is now serving in the Air Force
Faith Shere'- presently in college

Q7: I have MANY fond memoris of my years with Larry and Gordon while I was in the youth group and also with "All God's Children" & "Young Believers". I believe my favorite time with Gordon was one of the times when he invited all of us to his home for get-togeher. We sang songs, ate snacks and shared our testimonies.

Q8: The leadership I received from Larry and Gordon impacted my life in countless ways. Their christian values and the things they shared on the road and personally insilled in me the importance of staying committed to the Lord no matter what trials I faced.

Q9: God has given me the priviledge of teaching for the past 25 yrs & during that time I've had students who struggle with many lerning difficulties. One day I had a student pull a gun on me-(he was hurting & needed the Lord). God used this incident to transform me; which lasted for hrs. I talked the boy into giving me the gun but, God gave me a bigger vision that day - to make an impact on my students spiritually and academically. There is hope for every student/person !!

Q10: I have often thought about Larry, Sheila and Gordon and all my friends from youth aflame!! I know I was very quiet during my youth, however your frienships meant so much to me. I looked so forward to EVERY singing trip, & youth trip. Currently I live in S.C. where I have the best of both worlds, (according to my husband) because of the beaches and golf courses. My hobbies these days are: reading, writing books, and spending time with my famly.

Q7: Over the past 25 years I have often taught leadership classes to adults and teenagers. Every class always hears the following definition of leadership: "Leadership is stimulating others to brilliant effort."

I just shared the following recently with a group of young people discussing God's calling. "A youth pastor is equal in calling, but subordinate in position to the pastor."

I enjoyed traveling and seeing the Lord do some great things in high schools and youth rallies across america.

Q8: Gordon taught me to dream big and always to perform ministry with excellence. I am so grateful he gave a shy kid from North Carolina the opportunity to travel across America and see how God can perform miracles.

I have also spent most of my ministry life helping others reach the vision God has given them. He taught us to lead from the pack.

I believe Gordon taught us a great deal about leadership that today people spend hundreds of dollars to learn.

In 1993, I was attending a John Maxwell Seminar and I thought back to the little green paperback book on leadership we studied in youth classes. I have used that book over the years to remind me what leadership is and to teach others.

We were exposed to the best in leadership training.

Q9: I have had the opportunity to serve as a youth pastor, church planter, christian education director and school teacher.

I have served in churches from 15 to 2000, however the greatest impact has come from investing in the lives of young men and women. I will always be a youth pastor at heart and will always have a passion to see young people reach great heights for Christ.

Gordon you made a difference in my life and in the lives of those to whom I have ministered.

Q10: To Gordon and all those I traveled with THANK YOU for sharing your life with me.

Devon, lives in Fort Walton Beach FL. Married to Hollie with 1 son Landon and one daughter Audrie.

Q7: "The fish stinks from the head down".
I have referenced that so many times, both good and bad. Fish can have a beautiful aroma if it's prepared correctly and in the proper time. That teaching reminds me every day that people want an authentic leader. Someone they can look up to and relate to, and follow with pride & admiration.

Q8: Nancy and I have talked often of how we would not be where we are had it not been for Gordon's ministry. The way he poured himself into Larry Colclasure, Doug Turner and Dennis Henderson have had a profound impact on our lives. (so many others could be listed as well who had a hand in touching our hearts) We are who we are and are anchored in our faith because of his investment into young lives. I've told folks many times that our time at Thomas Road in the 70's was like catching lightning in a bottle. It hardly ever happens, and we are enormously blessed because it did.

Q9: There have been so many adventures the past 28 years. Ups, downs, good and bad, and God has always been there. It would take a book to list them all. Probably the most dramatic transformation/growth was resigning from a Worship Leader/Youth position at a church without another position to land in, but knowing it was what He wanted me to do. God used that time and that experience to touch, mold and guide us to where we are today.

Q10: I believe that all of us to were touched by Gordon's ministry have received an education in ministry and life that would not have been possible otherwise. I am looking forward to the opportunity of seeing him, giving him a hug, and letting him know just how much his ministry has meant to our family....and personally.

Q8: Gordon's love for young people has had a positive impact in my life. Although I was only in the youth aflame choir one semester I saw Gordon faithfully serve the Lord through youth ministries.

Q9: God is constantly working on transforming my life and the life of my family. My son is an adventurer and trusting God to protect and watch over him is a true faith-builder. He leaves October 21 again. This time he is moving to China. We don't know how long he will be there but again, we trust the Lord to protect and watch over him.

Q10: I moved away from Lynchburg for 3 years then returned and met my husband. Dennis grew up in Thomas Road (was a bus kid) but never attended Liberty. We have lived here our entire married life (25 years). God is good. Once I sang in the youth aflame choir, now I sing in the Thomas Road Baptist Church Choir. Some things don't change much.

Q7: My memories of Gordon was his drive to get things done. "move over or help" was a way of action for him.

Q8: I was not a youth aflamer, or a youth major, i heard there was a college group Bible study, and attended. Glenn Wright challenged me to get involved reaching out to the Lynchburg community and we started small groups of outreach. I had the nurses at Lynchburg General, and Virginia Baptist Hospitals. we grew from 5 to over 50. What impressed me was Gordon's teaching, to the point, and a way to connect with all. Many of these nurses came to know Christ, or got their lives back on track for him. Gordon and Glenn challenged me to come back home to California and start a college group, and to keep things simple.

Q9: Just watching how Gordon and many faced huge obstacles, whether it be in preparing for a scare mare, or some other activity, knowing that God would be faithful in the end. We mess up things, but God can turn them all into good.

Q7: "five minutes folks!" This meant we should have been at the church an hour earlier, the audience is pouring in and we have to get off the bus, changed and set up to sing pronto!)

"If this chorale is not what God wants it to be, then it is YOUR fault; don't blame anyone else. If you are right with God and filled with His Spirit, then God will use you to accomplish what HE wants and make the group what He wants through His work in YOU!"

Q8: Gordon was a mentor, vision imparter, and spiritual bulldog. He dethroned me early on and taught me to follow God's leadership. He inspired me to see the mission field of youth and taught me it was a far greater ministry to have the heart of Christ capture me than my talent capture an audience for one night.

Q9: There have been so many and each unique. One that comes to mind, involving Gordon, was singing in Seattle when Led Zeppelin was performing in the civic arena next to where we were. I will never forget the vision of thousands of young people worshipping at the altar of an American culture that represented the best Hell had to offer. It broke my heart.

Q10: My fond memories of 11 years at Liberty are many — with the LBC Chorale and Youth Aflame experiences from '73-'75 at the top. My first trip back there in 2004 after 21 years away was absolutely overwhelming -- almost like a dream. For my daughter to be a student there during Jerry's last days was bittersweet. Q7: In 1976 while a music/youth minister in NC I sat on the back steps to the baptistry at TR with Gordon while attending a Super Conference. I was asking for help in my ministry. Gordon stopped me in my tracks and asked me about my calling; was I called to youth ministry or not. I left that conference and went back to NC. I took a 3 month leave from my church, moved to Lynchburg (left my wife and boys in NC) and came here to observe how youth ministry is done. About a month later I told my pastor that I was called to youth ministry. I ended up at TR in 1978 to join the middle school staff with Dave Adams.

Q8: "Your role as a youth pastor is to discover your leaders goals, make them your goals and help him succeed in reaching those goals." I've spent the past 30 years living out that exhortation from Gordon.
AND, he trained Dave Adams who was my boss for 16 years.

Q9: WOW. I spent 21 years at TRBC and LU (through 1998). Teaching Introduction to Youth Ministry for 20 years at LU was absolutely transformational. Thousands of students (youth ministry and elective students) were challenged to do church youth ministry somewhere on planet Earth. What an incredible opportunity to shape young lives!

Q10: After 9 years in south Florida at Christ Fellowship (Palm Beach Gardens) I was asked by Jonathan Falwell to move back to Lynchburg to assist him in fulfilling the vision God has given him. I returned in October 2007. This past year has been one of the most blessed of my life.

Q7: Pressure produces performance. I use this phrase no less that 100 times a week.

Q8: Gave me a mentor like no other. Showed my that a "bulldog" can have softer side and compassion. I often ask myself, "what would Gordon do here" and the answer becomes apparent.

Q9: Daily life. Life is really rewarding and all too brief. As I prepare to retire again, I am really encouraged to find young people out there that are just as sharp as the ones in my old Word of Life club with YA. Most of the youth today have it together.

Q10: Life doesn't run in straight lines. Through the curves, you find out how well you can steer your vessel of life. Here I am at the near end of a work career and I am still looking at a steering wheel! Only thing is, now, I have a lot of relief drivers to back me up.

Q9:

Q10: Robert and I were married April 1982 at TRBC working and residing in Lynchburg, VA.

September 1984 we moved to France to start french churches. We helped start church works in three areas of France; one in the Paris area, one in Bayeux (a small town on the English Channel), and one in Montpellier (a thriving metropolis on the Mediterranean). When starting a church in France, you do not start with an equipped staff, you are the staff and do everything from cleanning, to nursery work, youth work, Awana programs, Bible studies for all ages, etc. I'm so thankful for the training I had received in several of my YA classes.

It wasn't long after being in France the we noticed missionaries leaving the field for one problem or another. We suddenly realized if these precious wounded soldiers could receive the right tools and support at the time of need on-field maybe they could stay in their ministries and be effective long term. With our abilities and gifts God has given Robert and me, One Another Ministries, International was launched July 1997.

One Another is now located in Montpellier, France and provides counseling, consulting, training and crisis management for Christian workers primarily throughout Western and Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and sometimes beyond.

I'm very thankful for all the training I received under Gordon's leadership with YA and I Love America. It has equipped me with people skills, working with children, youth, youth programs and prepared me to stick to it and keep at it!

Thank you Gordon and Dottie for the training, and for your love and care for all age groups that you passed on to me. In turn, I have tried to pass that love, care, and training on to many french young people and now to people from many parts of the world. Thank you for letting me be a part of your family at a time of need. Dottie was and is a great example of a wife and mom who loved her husband and family so much. She always made guests feel so comfortable and welcome. She taught me to treat family like guests and guests like family.

Thank you for your time you have invested in me!! Blessings to you Both. And please come see us soon!!

Love, Robert and Debby Lugar

Identical twin Joshua (28), wife Christy

Q7: When I was in the LBC Chorale ('73-'74 year) Gordan was asked to come take over the responsibilities of directing us after Christmas break. That meant leaving his wife and young family sometimes days on end to travel with us. I did not really appreciate what kind of a commitment he was willing to make on our behalf. Although his area of comfort was working with youth and not so much with music, I believed he showed us all we can do much more when we rely on God.

Q8: I cannot name any specific ways in which Gordan has affected my life, however, I believe it has been the small, incremental things we experienced, conversations we had and different personalities I was exposed to while travelling together that helped to shape my life. It has assisted me in being a better team player.

Q9: Six years ago Mark and I were in the sandwich years. Our sons were in college and Mark's parents came to live with us. During the first year his parents were independent, then their health took a nose dive and the burden for their care rested on us. That second year they (combined) spent over 70 days in and out of hospitals and rehab centers. Dymentia, heart surgery, kidney failure for both and numerous other issues tested us. But God was so gracious. Mark was amazing to watch with his parents. I could not have done that alone. We were a team and God was honored because of it. The whole experience sobers you to the realities that lie ahead of us.

Q10: I have been truly blessed. My time at LBC re-enforced what my parents had done at home. I was given a wonderful opportunity to travel this great country of ours, sing before large and small audiences and share my faith with others.

Q7: My favorite memories of Gordon would be in the direction of the Chorale, or YA, when he sat in the front row pointing at his face to make us smile, pointing to his heart to help us communicate the message and his tears of commitment to the Lord and his ministry. His passion and intensity of purpose has changed my life.

Q8: Gordon has had a profound effect on my life and any ministry that I have been privileged in which to participate. 1)striving for excellence in singing the message, not just performing. 2)In true communication and not just speaking & 3) dedication to whatever task God has called me to, husband, father, grandfather, ministry and vocation.

Q9: Becoming the father of three wonderful kids was a great challenge that gve me a glimpse of the great love of God. Being a grandfather to the most wonderful children in the world has been my greatest blessing.

Q10: My life has been impacted by each of the friends and team members I had contact with in Lynchburg - too many to list here. Each time my wife and I visit Lynchburg I feel as though I am returning home.

Cody (grandson aged 15 months)

Q7: Gordon asking me "wanna come join us and sing and do youth ministry?"
Gordon has never heard me sing either!
Being thrown together on a bus for hours and hours and trying to sleep in all sorts of crazy positions and places!
A great memory is also singing with YA back in Adelaide at the Festival Theatre, the band and FAT CAT!

Q8: It absolutely changed the whole direction of my life. I believe God was in the whole process that is why today I am married to the man God has for me and that I am still follwing HIM. I grew up enormously. I have been back to the US a few times since and have gone to visit Gordon and Dotti in Redding.

Q9: I like the word adventure! Yes I have had a few, some really happy ones, some really difficult ones. One of the more difficult adventures was when our eldest son Braden was diagnosed with Hodkins Lymphoma at the age of 13 - going through the whole experience of completely trusting God for your child, being there with him through the chemo, the hospital, the 'no hair' and the fear of what might happen. Even though it was one of the toughest few years of our lives, I wouldn't change it. I learnt more about the character of God and His amazing gift of strength and experienced His touch in the real and tangible love of His people. I know I could never have experienced this without the 'adventure' of cancer for our child.

Q7:

Q8: I did not serve under Gordon but he had a wider influence than just those on his teams. I thought so much of him even from a distance. I was under Larry Colclasure's leadership throughout my high school years. He was the best example of a Godly man I could have ever observed outside my family and his marriage to Sheila and their family life was such an excellent example for me. I even got to babysit their boys! I would say he and, later, Roscoe Brewer, were the two most influencial men in my life.

Q9: My first marriage ended and I was a devastated single mother of two young sons. My faith collapsed because it was based on some faulty foundations. I went back to my roots, turned to the Bible, returned to church and re-read some of my books from my high school and college years and God slowly rebuilt my relationship with Him until I was completely transformed! It ended up being a great blessing in my life and my sons' lives. I got married, 15 years ago, to a wonderful Christian man that I met at church and my new husband adopted my sons. We have been very committed to missions, inner-city ministries and teaching English to immigrants and refugees.

Q7: When Gordon was challenging us in class as youth majors, he used to drill Romans 12 into us and tell us that the only way we would ever make it in life and ministry is total dedication to Jesus Christ (12:1). In fact, he challenged us to memorize Romans 12 and make it our driving force.

Q8: Gordon's level of commitment to Jesus Christ and the work of the ministry to which he was called was/is an inspiration to me to accept the call and challenge of God upon my life. His commitment to excellence, coupled with Jerry's ideal that if its Christian it ought to be better has been a goal of mine through my 34 years in ministry.

Q6: Children: Nathan Lawrenson, Sarah Moore, Rachel Sanchez
Grandchildren: Gwyneth Rose Lawrenson; another one due in April, 08

Q7: I think it's a composite memory of him teaching the Intro to Youth class in the old TRBC sanctuary and the passion he had to "motivate others to brilliant effort". I was excited about my calling after every class...even though I had to take it twice.

Q8: Gordon exhibited a "whatever it takes" attitude that compelled him to leave home and go on the road to save LBC. That was a huge sacrifice, not only to his family, but to his students. But he was able to see the big picture.

Likewise, as a leader I am always looking at the big picture and realize that sometimes you have to make sacrifices.

Q9: The most transforming have been the most painful. One was when I was left hanging by people who should have been loyal to me and I was out of ministry for 4 years. God used that experience and those years to mold me.

The second has been this past year, watching my son's wife risk her life to give birth to a miracle child, then go through a double lung transplant and now cancer. Walking with them through this has taught me much about trusting God.

Q10: I'm looking forward to the reunion. To read about so many via the Facebook page has been a great encouragement and a lot of fun. Let's rock the LU campus that week!
