Q9: About 20 years ago, Marla was diagnosed with a hereditary kidney disease. Over time, the kidneys gradually lose the ability to function. During her annual checkup by her kidney specialist last year, he informed us that it was time to pursue a kidney transplant and/or begin preparations for dialysis. This year has been one of challenges, disappointments, and praise. We have had many times when we had to truly rely on God and the hope we have in him.

Through a series of God-events, a donor volunteered to give one of her kidneys! (You can read the details at RussianJourney.net/Transplant blog) Marla received her new kidney a few weeks ago on Aug 13. She (and the donor) are doing fine. She continues to rebuild her stamina.

An initial side-effect of the anti-rejection drugs is a suppressed immune system. Because of this, she will not be able to travel to the reunion. Bummer.

But praise God - she has a new kidney!
